Type Fighter is a 80’s inspired bullet hell arcade game designed for 2 players but can be played by a single player, if you’re feeling brave. One player must pilot the ship and fire the on board weapons, whilst the other player types words into the ship’s console to activate various cyber security themed abilities (e.g. Firewalls, factory reset).

This game was developed by myself and three colleagues initially over the course of a week as part of an end of year game jam (which you can read about here). After this we were brought on by PlayWest to develop Type Fighter further and to create some other games based around cyber security for the University’s IT department.

During this project I contributed a great deal to the design of the game, a lot of the gameplay scripting, animating game assets as well as a number of visual effects such as detailed particle effects and shaders.

I also put together this short trailer that gives an impression of the kind of experience Type Fighter is.
