Pico 8 is lovely!
6th December 2017
I love Pico 8.
It's a fantasy games console that you can buy right now for only $15.
This gives you access to hundreds of amazing open source games and more importantly, allows you to create your own programs, sprites, sound effects and music.
I've been getting to grips with Pico-8 in the last couple of weeks and also become quite evangelical about getting people to try it out for themselves (hence, this post).
It's a real treat to be able to iterate on tiny game ideas super fast and explore new ideas. Here's a few things I've put together recently as examples;

That very last image with the boat is something I'm particularity pleased with and something I've been working on more and more recently.
It started as a basic re-implementation of an earlier piece of work put together in Unity, but has since grown into something a bit more complex. Below is a more recent .gif of this water+ship program, now featuring someone I've taken to calling Wiggly Pete.
If you'd like to try out this water demo for yourself, you can do so here.
I've also put a brief description of how this fluid simulation functions in that post.
Anyway, go buy Pico-8, you won't regret it.
Also, try playing some of the top rated games made for Pico-8!
